Armed bandits abducted seven students from an off-campus residence in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, at 4 a.m. on Wednesday. The attack targeted a housing unit near the Federal Polytechnic.
One student escaped and reached security forces. Police confirmed six remain in captivity. The Zamfara State Police Command said the school premises stayed secure. The abductors entered after a student left a door open while stepping outside.
Joint police and military teams launched a search operation within hours. Troops from Operation Fansar Yamma joined the effort. The police spokesperson urged residents to share credible intelligence. No ransom demand has been reported.
Zamfara has recorded at least 270 abductions between June 2025 and May 2026. Recent incidents include the March-July 2025 mass abduction in Banga village where 38 victims died in captivity. Security forces rescued 106 kidnapped persons in Maru Local Government in July 2025.
This abduction follows the kidnapping of Bayo Adelabu’s sister and her twin sons in Ibadan on the same day. Teachers across Nigeria staged protests Tuesday over the abduction of 80 pupils and staff in Oyo and Borno states.
