Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army have arrested five suspected armed criminals in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State. The operation followed a distress call reporting an attack on local communities by armed men on June 4, 2026.
Soldiers deployed at Forward Operating Base Karim Lamido responded immediately. They came under fire upon arrival but repelled the attackers with superior firepower. The suspects fled in different directions. Troops pursued and arrested five individuals linked to the attack.
Recovered items included two motorcycles, daggers, machetes, assorted charms, gunpowder, and five mobile phones. The charms and weapons suggest the suspects were prepared for sustained criminal activity. The mobile phones may contain evidence of their operations.
Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops. He said their professionalism and courage aligned with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive to flush out criminal elements. Akaliro assured Taraba residents of sustained military pressure until normalcy returns.
The operation highlights the military’s ongoing efforts to secure vulnerable communities. It also raises questions about the suspects’ motives and possible links to broader criminal networks in the region.
