The Oyo State Police Command has neutralized two kidnappers and arrested four others linked to the abduction of Adegoke Olaide John-Paul, sister of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, and her 11-year-old twin sons. The victims were rescued unharmed after a three-day ordeal.
The operation unfolded on Saturday night in the Lado community of Ibadan. Police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka revealed that the gang had conducted weeks of surveillance, photographing the family’s vehicles, school routes, and daily routines. They even attempted to recruit a household staff member in May to gain insider access.
Tactical teams from the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) and the Oyo State Command stormed the gang’s hideout after tracking a key suspect, Wale Abolalewa, alias “Oloro.” Another suspect, Dare Oyedele, alias “Solution,” was arrested following interrogations. During the raid, a gunfight erupted when a lookout, Kelechi, opened fire. Police responded, killing Kelechi and an unidentified accomplice.
Recovered items included three pump-action rifles, 14 live cartridges, an unregistered Toyota Corolla used in the abduction, a battle axe, hammer, face masks, suspected hard drugs, and charms. Two additional suspects, Semiu Ishola and Adeyemi Ayobami, were arrested for providing the hideout. Police are now hunting fleeing gang members believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the operation.
The command has urged hospitals, clinics, and traditional bone setters to report any patients with suspicious gunshot wounds. Residents have also been advised to remain vigilant and report unusual movements to authorities. The victims, now reunited with their family, are receiving medical and psychological support.
