Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan claimed gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open on Sunday. She clocked 12.72 seconds to set a new meeting record.
The 29-year-old erased the previous mark of 12.80 seconds held by US Olympian Nia Ali. Taiwanese sprinters Bo Ya Zhang and Yi Po-an finished second and third in 13.17 and 13.37 seconds respectively.
Amusan dominated from the fourth hurdle. She crossed the finish line before her closest rivals cleared the final barrier. This victory marks her second consecutive record-breaking performance in two weeks after her triumph at the Rabat Diamond League.
She has now won three of her five races this season. Amusan remains undefeated on the podium in all competitions. Her next outing is the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene on July 4.
The New Taipei Athletics Open saw Amusan extend her dominance in global sprint hurdling. Her performance reinforces her status as a leading contender for major championships this year.
