The Accord Party has formally disowned Gbenga Hashim as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. National Chairman Maxwell Mgbuden confirmed the party never conducted a presidential primary or accepted nominations for the race.
Mgbuden stated that Hashim’s May 26 letter expressing interest arrived after the party’s deadline for presidential aspirants. No other candidate submitted forms or appeared for screening. The party notified the Independent National Electoral Commission of the cancelled primary.
The party’s bankers were instructed to reverse Hashim’s payments of N10 million for expression of interest and N40 million for nomination forms. Mgbuden called the event a "fanfare by his supporters" with no legal standing.
Accord Party clarified it only fielded candidates for governorship and legislative offices. The party’s electoral guidelines require strict compliance with timelines, which Hashim failed to meet. The leadership emphasized adherence to internal democracy in all nomination processes.
This rejection follows Hashim’s earlier identification as a Peoples Democratic Party aspirant. The Accord Party’s stance underscores the legal and procedural hurdles facing aspirants ahead of the 2027 polls.
